Welcome back response

We were told to draw words out of a hat for this project, and I got 'Fork'. I decided to focus entirely around contrast, the graphite of the fork to the oil pastels used on everything else, the colors of the ballet dresses compared to the blue, darker background, ect. It is approxomately 12'' by 9'' and was done with oil pastels, colored pencils, and graphite pencils. I would've liked, I think, to have added more depth to the girls (darkening the farther back legs) and more emphasis on the eating weapon, but all in all I'm fairly pleased how they ended up sort of being overlook-able to the fork's presence. I'm not sure why they're trying to push a giant fork into the ground, but my former idea of a forklift turning on the fork of a road wasn't exactly fitting into my strengths.

Rachel,
I love the details on the fork! What a cool drawing to light up someone's imagination. I'm not sure how the fork got there, but I am CERTAIN these chicks plan to use it for a weapon...they may look fragile, but they are tough girls inside!!:-)

Rachel!!!! This is magnificent:) The color is simply equisite and rich and I love the contrasting background and foreground. Excellent first piece and I can't wait to see more from you!

Rachel,
I adore how the fork is reminiscent of Greek culture; it has almost achieved a column like façade and, while somehow remaining quite delicate, is altogether marvelous. The translucency of the ballet dancer’s skirts is masterful as well, you captured the material beautifully.
With much curiosity towards your skill in pastels,
Kate

This is quite divine. At first glance from a far, I could have sworn the one girl was giving the other one a wedgie. But mind you, this was with my glasses off.

I love the intricacies of the fork. Beautiful, beautiful work.

Hannah is right. "RICH" is the most fitting word for this. I like the texture most of all... my pastels did not result in that wonderful effect... but it is all in the hands of the artist :) and YOU are an incredible artist.

I would like to get to know you more throughout the year

Much Love
Gretta

All,
I find your comments incredibly shocking. It's the first time I've used pastels in a piece, to my knowledge, and, if there's a way to, I'm pretty sure I used them incorrectly as a result of my novice-ness. . . but thanks? <: )

The blurriness of the background and the figures really accentuates the details of the fork. That coupled with a fun color scheme makes a great piece of work.

So I think I just sat here for five minutes in shock adoring your piece! I am amazed by how well you work with pastels. I am litterally speechless of how you could create such a piece from the idea of a fork! Girl, you got some talent and I can't wait to see what you have next!
