Expressive Portrait: Billie Holiday

Hello people.

This is my expressive portrait based on a photo of Billie Holiday. She is a very inspirational person and I found she expressed a lot of emotion in this picture. I tried to translate her passion and beauty in this piece.

My materials consisted of tissue paper, glitter and glue stick. I found using these materials a big challenge because the tissue paper was hard to cut and was constantly getting stuck to my fingers. But I always like trying something new. Even more so when it involves new shades of color.

I am still working on some highlights here and there and her hair is giving me some trouble. I would love some advice. Anything would be helpful. Thank you. peace.love.adventure. <3kate.

I like this more than I thought I would, especially posted here. But why the glitter coming out of the mouth?

I think this would be a stronger piece if you would work on facial proporations in your sketchbook and then let us discuss that.

Also, be careful, most of your images so far for your portfolio are relying heavily on past images, you need some original compositions.

I enjoy this immensely, but that's probably only because I enjoy Billie Holiday. & also because I like anything made out of paper & such...

At first, I wasn't sure how I felt about this piece and I think the photo of it on the computer doesn't do it justice. However, I have seen the original piece and how you've embellished on it and all I have to say it "Wow." You really need a photo of the completed creation up on the blog!

Nice job.

P.S. I am now just blogging as Hannah. "Blue Joe" just wasn't working for me. Just a heads up!

Yo. I really like this piece. It makes me want to sing :) Although i'm not very familiar with Billie Holiday, you just sparked some curiosity in me with this piece. I like the skin and your different textures as well. However, the background needs something more. Then again I realize that it isn't completed so I would really like to see the final piece! But so far so good. Keep it up :)

I love this piece. It looks like you put a lot of work into it and it turned out amazing. You can tell she's very passionate about her singing, and although I'm not familiar with Billie Holiday your piece portrays her as an inspirational person in my eyes. Also, I think the glitter is a nice touch. It's very creative and i think i understand what you're trying to convey with it (her passion for singing right?). Nice Job!! I still need to get a look at the finished version. Peace for now!!
