Even though I'm not the biggest fan of color, I really enjoyed this project. It was really easy for me to get lost in my own world and focus on nothing else when I started painting this particular peice for some reason. The colors I chose demonstrate me, really. I love variety and any thing that catches and holds my attention. However, I wish I could have blended the colors better especially in the chest area. It looks very blotchy while the rest looks smooth. I really want to paint the background black but leave some areas to incorporate color. I was also thinking about using tinfoil for something, maybe even cover the black stripes with it or the eyes. .
I tried using colors that really mesh well together. Making it look as if it was walking towards you was one of the most difficult processes for me. I used a light brown for the stomach and kept the tail end the same color: orange. The funnest part was making the whiskers. I got my paint brush and mixed the main colors used throughout the project and simply made a long, sinuous brush stroke. I had to go back with a small tipped paint brush and add a little yellow, though.
Seeing as how it's the first tiger I've ever drawn, I really like it. I know its not my best but I'm happy with it. With a little more practice I hope to create another one for my mother. I hope everyone likes looking at it as much as I liked creating it!

The colors in this painting make me sing (I have witnesses). The whiskers are absolutely glorious. I'm impressed with the tiger. I support the tin-foil usage, though I can't decide if it should be the background or the tiger's stripes (w/a black background).
ps. I'm so glad I'm part of the art gang. mmmmmhmm.
I love this piece. Its very intense and strong and the colors make it even better. I cant wait to see what else you do to it!
Wow, that's seriously the first tiger youve ever drawn? nice :D
umm, becouse the main thing to this assignment is color, how bout making the backgroung like a smoky fog that the tiger is emerging from...just an idea
Thanks for the advice. I love the idea of the tiger emerging from smoky fog. I wish I would have thought of that. Unfortunately, in class Friday, I already put him on tin-foil. But I'll be sure to use that idea for the next tiger that I've actually already started! Thanks again guyzz!
P.S. Thanks for the compliments as well 8-)
Kellie I think it turned out very nice. The colors make the tiger look courageous and strong. :-) And i saw the tin foil and it was a good choice as the back ground. Although i wouldnt have minded seeing the fog thing either. GRRRRRReat Job!
I agree that the chest area is a bit blochy, but I think if you add color to the white area right below that it will then work. The white draws the viewers eye to that area, so I think that is why it worries you.
I like how the picture looks on the web as far as the background with the white and shaded edges - there is so much going on with the tiger, anything in the background may get lost or distract from the wonderful colors you have used to create the movement of the tiger itself.
