Some Beauty is Only Skin Deep

Hello my fellow bloggers! The theme for this project was the 'Roll of the Dice' and, when it came to my luck, my project was based on the elements and principles of Value, Contrast, and Interior. Value for the project was easy, since it was simply shading, where executed correctly is for you as viewers to say. Contrast was easy as well (mmm, the idea was easy) as shown in the drawing of good and evil, light and dark, nice and mean. Again, to whether it is successful is for you to tell. However, interior took some brainstorming because frankly, I would get bored very quickly trying to draw the inside of a house or any other building, and my idea of a dissected cadaver didn't go over well either... So my project focuses on the interior of the human conscience.
The media used for the project was colored pencil on paper. Colored pencil is not my strongest media, however I was satisfied with the results. The only thing I regret is the background. I really struggled with it.

Overall, I like the composition and where you are going with this piece when using the dice that you rolled. I commend you for choosing a media that you struggle with and trying it. Contrast in color (light and dark areas) will add dimension and form to your piece.

Remind me in class to give you facial and human figure proportions. I noticed last year you drew figures regularly in your sketchbook and would like to see you continue improving on that.

I love how the dark figure severly contradicts the light one. The lighter figure is truly a beautiful little gal and you surely showed her true colors :). I like how you placed the hearts upside down on the darkened side; very nice. :) Such a great job, you did.

I love this one Hannah!
it is rather surreal, and yet at the same time very meaningful.
when i look at this it makes me think about the true sides of humanity...whether pleasant or alarming.
The face on the girl could use a slight bit of improvement i think, her forehead is proportioned differently...but other than that, i think what you did was BEAUTIFUL! this is the best thing i have seeen you do.
I agree with quinton, i like how you made the hearts upside down on the evil side; the constrast you created was wonderful!

Hannah! I've already told you in class how much I love this piece but I'll say it once again, It's awsome! I wish you would have put the girl held back by her ponytail in there though. I really enjoyed that part of it. Also I think if you did something to the background it would make it more eye-catching! I love how you were able to blend and shade the sweet and evil together. I look forward to your next piece. I hope one day I'll be able to create people and faces like you do!

Hannah! Hi! This is so cool, and I really love when an artist puts a message into his/her artwork, which is exactly what you did! :) I agree with Kellie about the background though, it might look better if you added a little something to it. Also, i agree with kate on the heart thing. The contrast you achieved is amazing. Good job...gooood job...good job. :)

Kellie, you are too sweet! You are an amazing artist yourself (Katherine, you too!!) and I really enjoy your feedback. I agree with the background, it wasn't very strong and needs some work. As to the part with the girl's ponytail, I just wasn't able to get it into the picture. I was upset about that too. Thanks for the comments!
