Hope Springs Eternal

Hey Art Gang! I hope you like what I've created and please don't hesitate with any criticism. I want to know more ideas for the background and what I can do to make it more mesmerizing. I'll take whatever you say into consideration and try my very best to apply it.

When rolling the dice, I received the elements: emphasis, non-objective and value. As you can see I placed the emphasis on the ribbon, value on the souls and non-objective on the bodies of the souls. From the very beginning I knew I wanted to do something disturbing to make people think so that they could come up with their own idea of the meaning in it. I started off with drawing an enormous blob. However, after a few pencil strokes, I gave this blob an arm and a head. Before I knew it I had created this ominous spirit that was strange but needed something more. I wanted to give it color but not too much because I didn't want to throw off the eerie sensation it produced for me. So I began thinking about ghosts and how they supposedly drift and glide in mid-air. This inspired me to create the ribbons around them, providing the element, emphasis, I needed.

Well I know your probably wondering why their are two up there. After creating the one on the right I noticed some small but significant details that I wanted to change about it such as making the ribbon larger, making the head into a skull, and also adding the slime onto the arm. However, once I completed that one I couldn't help but using the original piece also. I found it really odd how both arms fit together perfectly so I connected both together and got my final project.

Very interesting and thought provoking! From the blog picture I couldn't really tell about the skull on the left, so maybe you need to add some darker details.

And not to be picky - but when I clicked on the image I got this really great view of the piece and then could see the white outlined that you were not able to cut off. Maybe you could go over that with black marker,it would clean it up and give it a more finished look.

I told you in class how much I really liked your idea. There's just something about the contrast of black and red that make a really nice piece. You're oh so very talented. :) I can't wait to see it when it's finished!

I love the soft reds and shading in the ribbon. I agree with Mrs. Glen on the skull. It looks really amazing, but sort of hard to see.
ALSO, I really like the contrast between the soft shading on the ribbon and the rougher look of the subjects.

It's also really cool how you put them together. I can't stop looking at it, and I keep finding new things. Awesome work!

Thanks! I know exactly what ya'll are talking about with the skull and totally agree with you. I'll also get rid of the white outline Mrs. Glenn is talking about. Thanks so much for the advice again guys.

Kellie, this piece is really creative and I thought it was cool how the two arms of the skeletons connected without you meaning for them to. It was like fate or something :). Oh and being your sister and all, it doesn't seem like you at all(just thought I'd throw that out there). It kind of puts me in a wierd mood and makes me think and question a little bit, which I think is what you were aiming for. All in all, very nice, very nice. 8D
